Training Workshop on Human Rights Defenders: Background Materials
ImageA package of background materials was prepared by Forum-Asia for the Raoul Wallenburg Institute and the Asia-Pacific Forum of NHRIs Regional Training Program for representatives of NHRIs in the Asia-Pacific region. Materials include UN documents on HRD, reports and statement by inter-government institutions and NGOs, final declarations by key HRD Forums among other miscellaneous documents.
 
First Northeast Asia Human Rights Defenders’ Forum (NEA-HRDF)

hrdf nea (First Northeast Asia Human Rights Defenders’ Forum (NEA-HRDF): PROCEEDINGS – Nukht, Mongolia, 16-20 August 2006) 

As part of FORUM-ASIA’s efforts to strengthen the role of human rights defenders at sub-regional level, the proceedings of the first Northeast Asia Human Rights Defenders’ Forum record the discussions and issues brought up at the meeting in Nukht, Mongolia. The forum was themed “Promoting ESC Rights and Human Development – Strengthening the Role of Human Rights Defenders in Northeast Asia”, chosen because these are considered most relevant to the current realities in most of the countries concerned, in the sub-region of Northeast Asia. Further, the rights-based approach to development was taken up in addressing the theme of human development, together with the role of human rights defenders.

 
Training Workshop and Consultation on Internally Displaced Persons in South Asia (IDPs-SA)

idps sa (Training Workshop and Consultation on Internally Displaced Persons in South Asia (IDPs-SA): PROCEEDINGS – 13-16 July 2006, Colombo, Sri Lanka)

Containing the proceedings of the IDPs in South Asia workshop held in Sri Lanka from 13-16 July 2006, this brought together FORUM-ASIA members and partners, international and regional NGOs, inter-governmental organisations, other institutions and individuals working on IDP issues in South Asia. Discussions were centred on the theme “Promoting the Rights of Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) in South Asia – Strengthening the Role of Human Rights Defenders (HRDs)”. The workshop also provided an opportunity for FORUM-ASIA members and partners to share their experiences, gain new perspectives and knowledge, and was also an effort to strengthen the role of human rights defenders at the sub-regional level. 

 
First Human Rights Defenders’ Forum in South Asia (HRDF-SA)

hrdf sa (First Human Rights Defenders’ Forum in South Asia (HRDF-SA): PROCEEDINGS – 6-8 June 2006, Dhulikhel, Nepal) 

This forum was a gathering and platform for key human rights NGOs and defenders to share, learn and develop strategies for common action to advocate people’s solidarity, in order to promote and protect human rights in South Asia. The proceedings here record the discussions and issues of the forum, themed “Promoting People’s Solidarity for Democracy and Peace – Strengthening the Role of Human Rights Defenders (HRDs) in South Asia”. It also highlighted the historical importance of the people’s struggle for democracy in Nepal, and emphasised the need to further consolidate international solidarity among the people and human rights NGOs in South Asia and the rest of Asia.

 
International Consultation on Women Human Rights Defenders: Resource Book
ImageA collection of papers presented at the plenary sessions of the International Consultation on Women Human Rights Defenders held in Colombo, Sri Lanka between 29 November – 2 December 2005.

The articles are arranged in five parts: an explanation of the context and rationale of the campaign, historical and conceptual background of terminologies, critical issues facing women human rights defenders, recommendations for protective strategies, and accountability for women working in the quest for justice.
 
Building Peace in Aceh: Problems, strategies and lessons from Sri Lanka and Northern Ireland
peace acehThis book was produced out of a 2004 meeting involving participants from Aceh, Sri Lanka and Northern Ireland. It contains the proceedings of the “International Symposium on Peace Building in Aceh: Lessons from Sri Lanka and Northern Ireland”, held in Bangkok in August 2004. Similarities between the conflicts in these three countries were drawn and lessons learnt were highlighted, and are reflected in this book.
