JAPAN - 300 people participate to World Social Forum in Tokyo PDF Print E-mail

jp_wsftokyo_2010.jpgIn 2010, the World Social Forum (WSF) will take place in a permanent way throughout the year, around the world. On 24 January 2010, the World Social Forum 2010 in Tokyo was held in Japan.

According to www.labornetjp.org, about 300 people participated in the forum. It included discussion on security of food, present situation of workers in the country, global warming, poverty, US bases in Okinawa and more.

Osaka, the second biggest city in the country, will host another World Social Forum in March. For the coming forums in the world, please click here (WSF official website).

The official website says that the "World Social Forum is an open meeting place where social movements, networks, NGOs and other civil society organizations opposed to neo-liberalism and a world dominated by capital or by any form of imperialism come together to pursue their thinking, to debate ideas democratically, for formulate proposals, share their experiences freely and network for effective action". It was first organised in 2001.
