Joint Press Statement on the Murders of Two Indonesian Journalists

FORUM-ASIA and its members in Indonesia, the Indonesian Human Rights Monitor (Imparsial) and the Alliance of Independent Journalists (AJI), condemn the killings of Mr. Ardiansyah Matra'is and Mr. Ridwan Salamun, two journalists in Indonesia.

CAMBODIA: A false accusation case to have its first hearing after four years

licadho-logo-bg.gifAfter four and a half years in prison, a man accused of murder will have his first chance to appeal against his conviction on 11 February 2009, in Cambodia. Cambodia League for the Promotion and Defense of Human Rights (LICADHO), a FORUM-ASIA member, claims that he is innocent.

 
National workshops planned for CSO to comment on ASEAN Human Rights Body terms of reference

Bridging Trade, Investment, Finance and Human Rights

349.jpgFORUM-ASIA's Third Regional Human Rights Defenders Forum, was successfully held from 18-20 January 2009, after its postponement in December due to Thailand's political crisis.The Forum met its objectives of promoting a strong partnership between human rights defenders in Asia and the UN Special Rapporteur on the situation of human rights defenders.

SRI LANKA - Celebrating war victory and banning commemoration of dead civilians

Today, 18th June 2010, has been declared a public holiday by the government. Many Sri Lankans, especially Sinhalese from the South are expected to respond enthusiastically to the government's elaborate plans to celebrating the war victory over the LTTE. For several days, citizens in Colombo had to put up with closed roads in preparation. How much of our - citizens - tax payer's money will be spent for this celebration is something I don't know and dare not think.
