Protecting Human Rights Defenders Through Enhanced International Collaboration

A Consortium of organisations dedicated to providing a coordinated support for the security and protection of human rights defenders (HRDs) around the world launched a new protection mechanism – Protect the Defenders – in Brussels on 2 December 2015. The Consortium comprises 12 organisations that work collectively to implement the European Union Mechanism for Human Right Defenders.

The members of the Consortium are the Asian Forum for Human Rights and Development (FORUM-ASIA), the International Network for Economic, Social & Cultural Rights (ESCR-Net), Frontline Defenders , which leads the Consortium, the International Federation for Human Rights (FIDH), the World Organisation Against Torture (OMCT), the  East and Horn of Africa Human Rights Defenders Project (EHAHRDP), the Euro-Mediterranean Foundation of Support to Human Rights Defenders (EMHRF), the International Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Trans and Intersex Association (ILGA), Peace Brigades International (PBI), Protection International, Reporters without Borders and Urgent Action Fund for Women.
