Pakistan: Condolence on Bombings in Peshawar

The National Commission for Justice and Peace, a rights based organization of Pakistan Catholic Bishops’ Conference, strongly condemns the two horrific incidents of suicide bombing in Kyber Pakhtunkwa province i.e., Mardan District Court bombing and a Bombing in a Christian Colony near Warsak Dam, Peshawar today September 2, 2016.

The prompt response bythe Law Enforcement and Security Agencies saved hundreds of lives in the Christian Colony in Peshawar today. As per the report all the four suicide bombers were timely gun downed in a joint operation by Pak army, Frontier Corps and Police and had been secured. In this attack one Christian person lost his life and two private security guards with one constable was seriously injured.

The tragedy against the lawyer community continues as the Kyber Pakhtunkwa province is also in mourning on the heart wrenching attack on the Mardan district court bombing. As per news reports, the attack has killed over 12 people and more than 52 are injured including police officers and lawyers.

His Excellency Bishop Dr. Joseph Arshad, Chairperson of NCJP (Bishop of Faisalabad) and Mr. Cecil Shane Chaudhry, Executive Director of NCJP in a joint statement said that killing innocent people is an inhuman act and totally unacceptable. They appreciated the efforts of security agencies on their prompt action taken against the terrorists. Furthermore, they emphasized that the government of Pakistan needs to build proper security measures in order to ensure the right of life for all citizens.

They highlighted the fact that Kyber Pakhtunkwa province have faced multiple terrorist attack over the past 15 years and stated that the Commission and the Christian Community stands firmly with the people of Kyber Pakhtunkwa in this hour of need.

They further stressed that these tragic incidents has caused bereavement throughout the country. While praying for the deceased people, they extended their condolences to the families of the victims and prayed for the speedy recovery of the injured.
