NEPAL – Gender based violence: report on rape incidents alarming!

In January 2010,
INSEC
has recorded 163 cases of rape and attempted rape in 2009. As per the
information obtained, 177 female children and women were victimized.
In five incidents, the victims died following the rape. The victim age
ranged from 3 years to 102 years. Similarly, 103 rapes, 28 attempted
rape and 32 gang rape cases were recorded during this period.

INSEC had recorded 225 cases of rape and attempted rape in 2008.
Most
of the victims were above 16. Total 35 children including 4-year-old
boy and 34 girls below 10 years became the victims of rape or attempted
rape and one 5 year old girl was the victim of gang rape.

In
58 incidents of rape and attempted rape, two boys and 62 children of
between 10 and 16 years were victimized where 8 were attempted gang
rape.  Similarly in 73 incidents 79 women above 16 in age were victims
of rape or attempted rape in which 23 incidents were of gang rape and five persons including 2 girls of 9 and 10 in age were killed.
As per the data recorded by INSEC, one 12 year old disabled girl including 5 other women with disability was raped.
