Ramento, who was stabbed to death at dawn on 3 October in his Parish of San Sebastian. A statement by the Philippine Independent Church (PIC) condemning the killing was submitted to the Ambassador. The group's letter of concern to President Gloria Arroyo was also given through the embassy.
Human rights defenders believe that with this incident, extrajudicial killings may have adopted a new strategy such as making it appear like robbery, or some other common crime.
The delegation appealed to the Philippine government through Ambassador Antonio V. Rodriguez, to immediately investigate the killing and bring perpetrators to justice.
Incoming Consul General Ronel B. Santos received the letter of concern from the delegation.
A wreath of flowers and sympathy card are also expected to be sent to the bereaved family of the slain bishop.
