Dear Charm Tong,

The Asian Forum for Human Rights and Development (FORUM-ASIA) congratulates you
for receiving the 2008 Human Rights Award during the Vital Voices Global Leaders Award
Ceremony in Washington, D.C. on 8 April 2008.

We believe that the award is well-deserved. For years, you have devoted yourself to
promoting and protecting human rights in Burma and brought to the world’s attention the
issues of women human rights defenders in the country. The organisation you co-founded,
the Shan Women’s Action Network (SWAN), has also made great strides in working to
protect women and girls from the abuses of Burma’s military government and in fostering
solidarity among human rights defenders in Asia to work for the protection of human rights
in general in Burma.

FORUM-ASIA truly values its partnership with SWAN. We look forward to many more
years of collaboration with you and SWAN in building and strengthening a regional human
rights movement in Asia.

In solidarity,
